On Monday, a Jewish resident of Staten Island was beaten over the head with a metal bat.

The resident, a man, was standing in front of 475 Grandview Avenue, when a man came up to him, called him “dirty Jew” and whacked him upside the head with the bat. As yet unnamed, the victim sustained a wound to the back of his head, and was subsequently taken to Staten Island University Hospital for treatment.

Naturally, the attacker fled and has yet to be caught. At least the NYPD is investigating the case, and moreover, investigating the violent attack as a hate crime. Soon there will be no safe place for a Jew to live in America. Was there ever? Or has safety for Jews in America never been more than a mirage?
