The Democratic National Committee (DNC) recently blocked a resolution calling for recognition of Palestinian statehood and suspension of U.S. military aid to Israel. While some might see this as evidence that the party remains committed to Israel, the truth is more troubling. The resolution may have failed for now, but the growing influence of the far-left within the Democratic Party guarantees it will resurface—and with increasing force.

The Democratic Party has generally not been a friend to Israel, and today its far-left base has made that reality impossible to ignore. What the leadership blocks today will likely be embraced tomorrow as grassroots activists press harder. That means the “no” vote on this resolution is less a victory than a warning shot.
